Creating a Sub Domain under Windows 2003 Domain
Hello,
We have Windows 2003 domain named abc.com. We have Exchange 2003 Server
with users having address user@abc.com. I want to create a sub domain called
sales.abc.com. Also I want to receive/ send mail from users having address
user@sales.abc.com. How should I approach this and what are the steps? Does
creating an MX for the sub domain helpful in any ways? Do i have make any
changes to reciient policy?
Thanks

1. In Exchange System Manager:
Expand Recipients and click on Recipient Policies. Then in the right hand
pane, right mouse click Default Policy and choose Properties, select the
E-mail Addresses tab, click New, select SMTP Address, Click OK, In the
address field of the dialog that opens, type: @sales.abc.com and Click OK.
Place a check in the box next to @sales.abc.com, then click OK.
You can then add e-mail addresses to your Sales dept, in ADU&C or you have
the option of right mouse clicking Default Policy and selecting "Apply this
policy now" which will add a sales.abc.com e-mail address to users that
still have ":Automatically update e-mail addresses based on Recipient
Policy"

In your public DNS:
You will need to add an MX record to your Public DNS zone for abc.com:
Name Type Data
sales MX 10 <mailserverhostname>
You should already have one for:
@ MX 10 <mailserverhostname>
Keep in mind, the Name column of the above records will vary from DNS server
to DNS server. But the Data Column should give the same SMTP host name for
both MX records.
