    ZPen: Dane Launches Digital Pen

With ZPen (pronounced "Zipen"), Dane simply intends to revolutionize the way a student or professional takes notes and manages its day-to-day. The ZPen is a digital pen: equipped with a mine ink, like any good traditional pen, he is able to capture your writing so that you can import it to your computer then convert your notes into electronic documents, the raise in recognition software for handwriting or archive, or even place them online so that they are accessible at all times and in all places. Real innovation?

The ZPen looks like a simple pencil, but this time he is able to communicate with the receiver provided that records information written by the user. The transmission of information is through sound.Specifically, it is enough to turn to fix the receiver at the peak of his sheet of paper and then turning it on so that it starts to receive the data sent from the pen.

When the pen comes in contact with the paper, it emits a beep inaudible (ultrasound). This signal is recorded with two microphones by the receiver whose electronic circuits take care to determine the position of the pen.To do this, they rely primarily on the velocity of propagation of sound in the air, to determine how far the mine is situated on the receiver, then triangulation calculate the exact position.Taken together, these data allow the aircraft to scan handwriting, and it is not necessary to use a particular medium.

The only limit put nothing between the pen and receiver, forcing the left-handed placing it at the bottom of the sheet. For transcoding of audio, Dane was offered as a solution signed by Israeli society Epos. The system would resist most of the interference as possible, even if the use of two copies of the aircraft at very close range is likely to pose a problem. Dogs, cats and other animals will not be affected, promises Dane.

Equipped with 1 GB of flash memory allowing it to store digital data, as well as the software required for their processing, the receiver functions as a USB drive that we need only to connect his computer to find his notes and in passing integrated recharge the battery. The pen, which acts as a transmitter, operates about him with two "button" batteries. Dane speaks with a life of around 75 hours for the pen and 20 hours for the receiver.

Listed in the form of a sequence of vectors, the notes can be read only by a special viewer, came with the ZPen and compatible with Windows, Linux and Mac OS.An application, only this time Windows will then change his notes in PDF documents more easily exportable or classify them on his hard disk. Finally, there is a module for recognition of handwriting. Comme tous les logiciels du genre, celui-ci s'accomode assez mal des pattes de mouche, mais un mode « apprentissage » permet de le former Ã* son écriture. Like all software of its kind, it s'accomode little chicken scratch, but a "learning" mode lets the train to his writing.

Dane offer in the first quarter of 2008 a second application, most original, dedicated to the classification and archiving handwritten notes. These will be indexed in a database, so it is not necessary to retain the original files. In this index, the notes may of course be classified manually, but the great strength of the application should be linked to allow searching on all its notes even though these have not been converted into a office document classic. More powerful than software for handwriting recognition, the application called Notes Search perform a statistical recognition, based on a calculation of probabilities and intended to enable the detection of a word even though the latter would not be properly interpreted by another software.

In order to enrich its product value-added services provided by the Dane continued to offer the user the centralization of its notes on an online service, so that they are accessible from any computer connected Internet. The ZPen will be launched in early 2008, the price of appox. Rs. 7250.

Pity that it did not exist when I was still at school, but a system based on the ultrasound is not likely to be disturbed?
