question how to unbrick nokia n900

Tried apt-get dist-upgrade in N900 and all the installation files including os files was removed..I'm not sure what I did..but after that I've verified that the command should not be used.
Now my phone is dead and when turn on the phone getting only the Nokia screen and then turns off automatically.

    Steps followed using Ubuntu 12.10 ( 64 bit ) :

    1. Tried to Flash using flasher 3.5 with Vanilla emmc image.bin file..it shows waiting for usb to connect and then it runs some commands and then getting the same waiting for usb to connect for hours..still the phone is connected in flash mode ( pressed the u button while connecting the cable and usb icon present at top right )

    2. Tried to flash Meego emmc due to the fact that maemo failed..even the flasher message says successfully done and I could see some script running in cellphone on the dim screen..but at a certain point cell phone stops and the Terminal doesn't end to shell prompt.

NOTE: if any of you guys needs the exact message from Terminal please let me know so that I can post that immediately. PLEASE HELP..

Try to follow the below method and see if that works:

    1. You need to first of all make sure that the battery is charged enough on th phone.
    2. After that unplug all cables and then turn off the phone and then remove battery.
    3. After that connect USB cable from N900 to PC and start flasher on PC
    4. Now you have to slide out keyboard and then press U button, and keep it pressed while you plug the battery back in
    5. After that wait until you see the NOLO screen ("NOKIA") and a small USB symbol on top right and then flasher on PC should recognize the N900 and do the flashing

There was someone who was able to fix this issue of dist-upgrade which was failing. What he did was he disabled the extras-level repository and then use "apt-get dist-upgrade" that will say, "0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded. You will be still on version PR1.2 though I believe.

Re: how to unbrick nokia n900

    Sure thing..

Followed the wiki steps exactly as mentioned but reversible..since I've bricked the mobile using the command apt get dist upgrade and my mobile is totally blank after that..so in wiki they have mentioned to flash vanilla image first and then the firmware and I've tried that with no success..so just before getting the mobile to nokia center I've tried to flash the firmware first and then my mobile turns on...thank god

Flash PR1.3 image then your mobile will boot as mentioned in the wiki website.

Then your firmware will automatically mount and it will be slower..

Now your phone will be in normal condition and you can follow the steps as mentioned on wiki normally.
