ThumbsUp memory card size reduced due to format

Hi guys..I have a 2 GB micro sd mem card transcend which I have 1.84 GB of free space which I have used to install a program and then I have format the card, then the size was reduced to 1.70 GB

Is that a normal thing that all mem card will do and is there any way to prevent them from reducing the card space, as I was forced to purchase a 4 GB card for installation now .....can we get the space back again????

Thats weird, what kind of program did you install in your micro sd card that reduced the actual size of the card? I would suggest you to format the drive to NTFS by using command prompt and then see if you get back the previous size that you were getting on the memory card. If it is a E: drive then put the below command in cmd:
    convert e: /fs:ntfs
