I am using Samsung Galaxy S and my network switches between 3g and edge. When I am using the internet sometimes it works fast and sometimes slow. I came to know that the network is switched. How is this possible and can anyone provide me information?

Re: Samsung Galaxy S switches between edge and 3g network.

When you are in 3g network it means that you are on a high speed network and the browsing on the net will be fast. When you see the E symbol in your phone it means that the 3g network is not available and your phone is access the edge network is available for browsing which is not fast as 3g network The network depends on the location you are. In many locations you can’t even get the edge network properly. Sometimes it happens that you are walking around the network automatically switches between edge and 3g. This happens due to the network connectivity within the location. It is possible that the service provider may have not given the 3g network to some places.

You can select any one network if switching between edge and 3g network irritates you. You can select any one network for your assistance. To select any one network follow the steps.
1. Go to Menu.
2. In menu go to Settings.
3. In settings go to Wireless and Network.
4. In that go to Mobile networks.
5. Then go to Network mode.
Select the network you want to use. The WCDMA option is for 3g and GSM option is for 2g.

Re: Samsung Galaxy S switches between edge and 3g network.

I was getting irritated by switching between the networks. So I selected only one network to operate. I selected 3g network as it is fast. To select 3g network follow the steps.
1. Type * # * # 1 9 7 3 2 8 6 4 0 # * # * on your home screen.
2. Your phone will go to service mode. In service mode various options will be available.
3. Select Band Selection.
4. In Band Selection you have four options. The * Asterisk indicates what option has been chosen.
5. Then select the second option WCDMA Band
6. Various options will be available from that select WCDMA 850. After selecting this option you will be prompt that the option has been enabled.
7. Go back to the previous screen by clicking on the menu and then back. Don’t use the looped arrow to go back.
8. To check whether all the 3g networks are available or not. Select on Combi bands.
9. If you see all the bands in * Asterisk then your phone is able to access all the 3g network.
