Dell Inspiron 6000 showing Error Code 1000-0146

hi guys

I have this Dell Inspiron 6000 for quite a along time now but the problem is lately it game this Error Code 1000-0146 and following this error I am now unable to use the CDRW/DVD , it just don’t run the CD or DVD . I am unable to burn disc as well. Perform the diagnostic test and the hard drive is working just fine . look like it time to get the new CDRW/DVD player , my current CDRW/DVD player CDRW/DVD TSL462C and I did downloaded the latest driver for the same but it just don’t work , I there any one here hel p me on this I will be really appreciating any help

Well have the same issue on my Dell Inspiron 6000 as well giving the

error code:1000-0146
Msg:Unit 0 : IDE: status failed status byte= 64 Control Code 1.

I have looked very where an all I can make out of this is I need to have replace the HDD , I was just wondering of there any way that I can recover my work or will all my work will be lost

Well this error is related to the hard drive self-test failure. And that might be the reason that the DVD drive is not reading , and this is because on the DVD drive maybe located on the bad sector of the hard disk . All I can suggest you that try the bootable CD in the hard drive ( press the F12 to boot from it) and by doing this the drive boot the system okay than that means the hard drive need to be replaced and is faulty in place of the CD/DVD drive.

Got this error as well and I was told to replace the HDD . but I need all the files in the HHD before I can replace the HDD but the issue is that I am not able to login to my machine anymore , is that anything that can be done so that will able to log in to the machine again so that I will able to retrieve my required file , can any on here help me to get my file back I will be glad

Well in case you are system able to make out a hard drive (check setup, F2 at start), take away the drive, attaches it to the in 2.5" EIDE drive case, mount it to the working system by USB, take ownership of the files you require then copy your files.

Like to ask you that do you have the access to an genuine Windows Cd. And if yes then just boot on the recovery mode and run chkdsk /r. with any luck you can obtain it to boot, backup al l you require, after that put back the drive. If you ask me i would take the drive out of the laptop plus put it as slave on other computer, or your Inspiron 6000 probably can save some files that way.

This error is because of the DST fail to test , the DST means Drive Self Test this is what can do reinstall the Operating system and if that is not helping then all option that you will have is to replace the hard drive
