Blackberry 9300 or 9360 what should I prefer for BBM?

I am planning to buy a blackberry for my daughter who has lately got all obsessed with BBM. I being a complete Android freak have no idea in ‘whats’ and ‘hows’ about this. Among all the ultra technical questions that are fired on the old hands out here, I would like to ask a very basic question. I hope the experts are kind enough to address them. I am confused between 9300 and 9360. According to a friend of mine 9360 is a better option, for which he picks up WiFi as a reason. I am still unsure.

Your friend is absolutely right! But it holds value only if you need WiFi. However, I would like to justify what your friend said by putting forward some technical facts viz; the OS required to run WiFi hotspot on a blackberry device is OS 7 or above and Blackberry 9300 doesn’t support any OS above OS6 so this makes it crystal clear that if you wish or plan to use WiFi, then do not consider 9300. Anyways, Blackberry 9360 is actually an awesome piece and deserves a rank above 9300 and this is definitely not just in regards with WiFi but many other features surrounding this.

I think I would prefer wifi as I have wifi at my place. Another question that is bothering me is about the data plan that I need to choose for BBM to work as that is the primary concern for my daughter. What do you suggest?

Without a blackberry data plan, any blackberry phone is just another phone which sends and receives calls and SMSes. However, one thing that you need to know is that blackberry data plan and generic data plans do vary in a lot of regards.
Let me enlist a few differences:
    • With a normal data plan you can use 3rd party browsers like Opera and all but not the native ‘Blackberry Browser’. Performance difference between browsers do exist.
    • You may get emails using 3rd party applications but not by Blackberry Pushmail
    • You cannot use BBM, you can use other 3rd party instant messaging apps but not BBM.
In your case, just another data plan won’t do, you need to use Blackberry dataplan.
