Acer aspire 6920 wont detect 4Gb ram instead 2.99 GB

HI, i am having very weird problem with the machine as i have replaced my older 2GB RAM with the newer 4GB ram but now whenever i boot the machine i can only be able to see the 2.99Gb of RAM rather than the entire 4GB. Any idea what could be the problem? Any suggestion for resolving this will be appreciated.

You should first make sure whether your machine supports 4GB of RAM or not first of all, because see if not then you might not be able to get it work even. but i am not getting if the machine wont support 4 GB of RAM then how is it even working? Have you installed any other memory module as well in the machine along with this one?

Yeah i was also confused about the same but after confirming from the service center i came to know that the machine supports 4GB of RAM, but still i have another stick installed as well in the machine but still i am not able to utilize what could be the problem.

It might be possible as there could be some problem with the BIOS installed in your machine. thus i would like to recommend you that you should try to reinstall the BIOS in the machine.

Start msconfig from the Run command and you have to go to the second tab, click "advanced options" and as the window appears in front, you have to make sure that there's no limit to RAM (it should be un-checked).

But if suppose you are still having problem with the machine that simply means there could be some problem with the operating system, because see i have heard that in order to detect entire 4GB of RAM you must have to install the 64 bit of operating system rather than 32 bit. Thus you should make sure about that first and see whether you are getting the same result or not.
