Lenovo ThinkPad T500 Hard Drive Upgrade

I bought Lenovo ThinkPad T500 Few months back which has 160 GB of Hard Disk (7200 rpm) .I want to upgrade Hard Disk of laptop to 500GB or more. Regarding this I contacted Lenovo Customer care and they said that your laptop can recognize Hard Disk up to 320 GB so don’t try to add new HDD which is more than 320 GB. Is it true that it can handle only 320GB of HDD not more than it. How can I check compatibility of HDD with my laptop? I want to add WD Scorpio Black 500 GB SATA Hard Drives (WD5000BEKT).

I am using Lenovo ThinkPad T400. I have upgraded my system HDD. Currently I am having Scorpio Black 500GB in my laptop. And I don’t have any problem with it till now. My laptop works perfectly with it. I don’t know why Lenovo customer care executive says that it can handle only up to 320GB of hard disk .Any 2.5” SATA Notebook Hard Drive is compatible with it. Only thing you must check is Size it must be 2.5inches x 9.5mm.otherwse it can’t placed in HDD slot in laptop

The Hard Disk you specified WD Scorpio Black 500 GB SATA Hard Drives (WD5000BEKT). According to me it must be compatible with your laptop. Check its specification it must me SATA HDD and Not PATA. It will work perfectly if everything is correct .I Have Lenovo ThinkPad T520 which came with 500GB HDD (7200 rpm). If this Lenovo laptop can handle 500GB so your laptop has to handle 500GB since it is in same series. I don’t understand why Lenovo Executive make such a statement. Before doing any updates make sure to create recovery disk. Which will be helpful if anything goes wrong while upgrading?

Re: Lenovo ThinkPad T500 Hard Drive Upgrade

I am not sure what customer care executive says to him but I think executive wants to say that Lenovo doesn’t qualify 500GB HDD which will work in ThinkPad T500 i.e. they have not tested and not support such a configuration. It’s means that Lenovo don’t sell this option for HDD. This doesn’t mean that T500 is not compatible with 500GB of HDD. You can use Seagate, Samsung, Western Digital any 2.5”SATA HDD will be compatible with it.

I have this laptop too. And I have upgraded its HDD to 500GB .same HDD you specified i.e. WD Scorpio Black 500 GB SATA Hard Drives. And it works perfectly on T500. It also performs well. Faster as compare to previous one which was 320GB HDD came with Laptop. And I agree with what …… says. I think the meaning of Executive is that only.
