Windows 7 and Xbox

Sorry if this has already been covered but here is my problem.

My Xbox can see my PC. My PC can see the Xbox.

My PC cannot connect to my xbox when I enter the 8 digit code.
My Xbox cannot see my Media Centre PC.
Help please, total newbie.

I have Windows 7. The latest Xbox with kinect.
