Does NVIDIA 9600M video card will fit in Acer 7720g?

I had recently bought a new Acer 7720g which is having a video card of 8400m gs mxm gf and I’m planning to upgrade the video card to the NVIDIA 9600M gt ddr3. I had made a search for it on net but I dint get a answer some are saying yes and some are saying no that it will going to get fitted in the laptop and I had also compared the two cards and I think 9600m gt is slightly bigger than the other one and I came to know for that I need to update my bios also to the v1.45mod with the heat sink and then make a use of modification of NVIDIA .inf drivers. I want to ask will it going to get fitted in that laptop slot or any other will get fitted in it.

There are many mxmed laptops available in the market and most probably they are ready for the update and I think the selection of the card is limited. I think the video card Geforce 8600M GS 512MB GDDR2 and GeForce 8600M GT 512MB GDDR2 are the best for the laptop and they had being tested by the Acer and having a MXM interface which is usually get fitted in the laptop which is having the MXM on board slots which is based on which type it is type l or type ll.

Well according to me the 9600M gt is bigger as it is an mxm type ll card and the 8400m usually have an mxm type l card as you know smaller card can be easily fitted in the nigger slot. But I had readed that few people had upgraded their video cards from 7720g mxm card to the 9600m gt. There can be either or all of mechanical, thermal and software compatibility. So I think you must talk to Acer customer support and they will tell you whether it is possible or no.

Well I got a Acer 9600gt and had change my card and later I was not able to see anything beside the black screen even the laptop is on I’m having the bios v1.45 and I had noticed that the corners of the core where chipped. Well I’m thinking is there any other reason for the black screen. I had seen that my previous card which was 8400 gs use a hynix memory and the 9600gt make a use of Qimonda memory. Do I need to vbios file to get the things work.

Well I don’t have any clues regarding the MXM cards as I have never done any sort of upgradetion. Well you should ask the person who had upgraded it to the 9600M GT or contact to the customer care support executive. And the problem with the swap is that you might have not de power your mother board while doing a swap. You need to de power it because bios are still looking for the 8400M GS and it is not compatible with the 9600g.

I’m not much concern about the power consumption as I’m having the higher amperage charger and I’m not having any sort of error beep from my laptop and windows is also working fine in the background but the things is there is no display I think it is getting conflicting between the vbios and the m/b bios. Well with your problem I think that you should not change is as that card is also good and if you install the other one and if it won’t get fitted properly then you won’t get a display.
