Need information on Auto Lighting Optimizer and Highlight Tone Priority

Hi last month I had purchased Canon 450d for myself, and I must say that it has great photo quality that is been liked by everyone. But as I am new to Canon 450d I had certain questions that I need to ask about this camera, so I thought of posting them here assuming that I get answers to it.
The first question that I need to ask is that, What is "Auto Lightig Optimizer"?
And the second question I that, What is "Highlight Tone Priority"?

The new function in Canon 450d 'Auto Lighting Optimizer' is enabled by default, this feature enabled if you are shooting P, Tv or Av, but not in 'M'. As per my knowledge this function does not work if manual exposure is been set. The basic function of Auto Lighting Optimizer is that it adjusts the image automatically to obtain the finest brightness and contrast that gives perfect image.

Re: Need information on Auto Lighting Optimizer and Highlight Tone Priority

Hi I have been using Canon 450d and I recently came across this new feature called as “Highlight Tone Priority" mode, and I really like this feature. This mode is to prevent blowing out the highlights in very bright areas of the image. Highlight Tone Priority mode gives option to boost dynamic variety for highlights when shooting wedding and landscape photographers.

Re: Need information on Auto Lighting Optimizer and Highlight Tone Priority

I would really like to thank you all for your kind replies; your feedback helped me in knowing my camera in a better way, and I would like to appreciate your feedback. One more thing that I need to know is that when should I use Auto lighting optimizer and when to use Highlight tone priority function? As I am still little confused to when to on these functions and when to off them! Please help.
