looking laptop for multipurpose usage.

I am a graduation student and I am looking to purchase a new laptop. As I need to manage with my projects, presentations, and photos. I need to work on some of my projects. So I need a multipurpose laptop that can help me in managing my all stuff like gaming/work/entertainment and other basic work, any help would be very much appreciated....

Size- As I have been using a 14inch for a while so probably I’ll prefer same size but willing to consider others.
Brand- Asus and HP are good.
Primary tasks- Entertainment, work, gaming.
Outdoor use- Yes
Battery life- I want the maximum amount of battery life possible, want to improve on the couple hours of battery life my current notebook has.
Preferred OS- Windows (XP or Vista or Windows 7), Linux.
Screen resolution-280x800 is fine.
Hard drive space-Standard hard drive size, don’t need a lot of space.
Optical drive-Not mandatory but probably a standard DVD Burner is fine

Thanks for your suggestion those look like nice options and will think about them. However, I am looking rather for something in the 14” size. Are there any other similar options as those for that size? And if possible in something with asus, HP or sony. Do you know about the battery life on those laptops as I was hoping for a laptop with nvidia optimus battery for a battery life.
