What color is the color of the discs you are actually attempting to install l from? You will require a black retail edition of Leopard. If the disc along with you is gray, that implies it delivered as a restore disc with some other Mac and is precise to that model; you can not make use of it on your iMac.I am aware that in the US, people can still obtain Leopard by calling Apple Phone Sales. I am not confident about the UK, but you can attempt to make a call the Apple Phone Sales number or the Apple Care number and check if they can sell you the retail edition.

You probably must upgrade the RAM to more than 256MB beforetrying to run an OS X 10.5 system in a supported system .Since the iMac G5 can make use of considerably more, to upgrade this isan significant part of the computer's utility; and also to obtainthis capacity up to at least 1024MB or 2048MB is suggested. And possibly with matching quality chips, to be certain it works. The Mac possibly can't boot 10.5 with less than 512MB except if it can start in SafeBoot mode; with only 256MB that's not well.

Okay, re-reading your first post I observe that you simply have 256MB of RAM? I think Leopard requires a least amount of 512MB. Try picking up a little extra RAM--you listed the sort you require, so you must be able to find an upgrade--and undertake with a full gig or RAM or extra. The RAM increase will be a considerable improvement in your system .
