The Acer TravelMate 8371 is part of the "Time Line" series, the Acer has missed the addition: "More than eight hours work wherever you want." To test the model we have 944G32Mn Acer TM8371-version. This is an Intel Core 2 Duo SU9400 for the computing power that is responsible. It works with a maximum of 1.4 GHz and has 3 MB of L2 cache. Intel has for this processor from a TDP of 10 watts. Acer TM8371 also offers a Core 2 Solo SU3500 at a lower price, appropriate compromises in performance included. The processor has access to testing device standard 4 GB DDR3 SDRAM, organized into two 2-GB modules. The 13.3-inch display uses LED-backlit display and a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. Takes control of the display GMA4500MHD Intel, which is an integrated graphics chipset. In the test device, provided is a Seagate hard drive with a capacity of 320 GB. In the wireless radios, the TravelMate 8371 using Intel's module according 802.11a/g/n 5100, also communicates wirelessly via laptop Bluetooth . Wired, the device can per-Gbit Ethernet to the network include. Time of testing was Windows Vista Business installed on the notebook. The official list price of the test model is currently around Rs.60000, commercially, the device is to have some better deals. The test model is also in an expansion with integrated UMTS available. Acer granted to the notebook a one-year product warranty and registration for another year Acer Advantage warranty extension. The 13.3-inch display of the Acer TravelMate 8371 uses LED-backlit display and a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. Displays such a 16:9 format so far in the professional field still rather the exception. With a line of about 118 dpi resolution can work quite acceptable. By comparison, it approximates the "perceived" resolution, how it is used by 14-inch displays with 1440 x 900 pixels. During testing, we register a maximum brightness of around 200 cd / m² - that's an anti-reflective screen for a very good result and is enough for once to work outdoors - thanks to the satisfactory contrast. To the uniformity of illumination, it is ordered satisfactory.

The layout of the neat little keyboard is available to suspend. The Enter button is big, I block the cursor is properly lower right. The attack of the keyboard is also satisfactory for fast writers. Not so good however, it is ordered to rest: The entire keyboard springs back a little and shifts slightly in the chassis. This spoils the otherwise good quality impression. By comparison, the consumer version of the keyboard Acer Aspire 3810T us has fallen significantly since the better. Good grades earned, the touchpad with multitouch capability. The slightly rough surface helps with precise control. Laudable: the switch to disable the input unit sits next to it. The test laptop brings almost exactly 1.7 kg on the scale. This is not a record for a 13-inch set, but the appropriate equipment. When you travel weight again come around 400 grams for power supply and cable to - a satisfactory value. The case of the TravelMate 8371 is processed very orderly and stable, which also applies to the hinges of the display lid. This could even be a little stiffer. The rough surface proves to be quite resilient and, unlike a high gloss products even after prolonged use, no unsightly fingerprints visible.

In the test device performance is an Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 is competent, which is currently the second most powerful CPU in the SU series. This dual-core processor operates at a maximum of 1.4 GHz, a FSB of 800 MHz and comes with 3 MB L2 cache. The current top of the SU-series is the SU9600, the potters at 1.6 GHz. Performance may surprise you by these processors do not expect the TravelMate 8371 also available in single-core CPUs are superior to them significantly. In the test notebook, the processor has access to standard 4 GB of DDR3 SDRAM.

The standard six-cell battery offers a capacity of 60 Wh This is slightly above average, although not completely uncommon. Despite six-cell battery and 13-inch size extends the battery is not really clear in the case, but is framed relative sent by the display lid hinges. When charging the battery, the power supply is comparatively timid to work, so it takes about four hours, until the energy donor loaded to 100 percent. Given the times, this is probably forgivable, and the tradition of the overnight charging is probably quite feasible. The maturity of the Acer TravelMate 8371 series from the business of the Time Line Series is a powerful argument and were away from the pure benchmarks follow as well in everyday practice. The whole thing Acer has in a very quite properly processed and packed housing quality acting. The performance is sufficient for the usual office routine. The also available Core Solo version should be there already clearly weak. In short, a very attractive companion with Marathon skills. That's exactly how successfully paper over the shortcomings: it dispensed with an optical drive, ExpressCard slot and eSATA as well as a digital signal output for display.
