    Maemo Mapper on Nokia N900

Want to know installation and setup of the MaemoMappers on a Nokia N900. The MaemoMapper is a kind of navigation system does not reach quite to the commercial programs but in view of the fact that it's freeware, the performances are quite decent and well-available. The function of the Nokia N900 as a navigation device or a GPS receiver is necessary. I have the i-Blue receiver that works well and has a long battery life. The easiest way is to be entered using the program manager to the repository.

You can activate the speech output and change the volume of speech output that can be separately hereby change to the set sound volume. Prerequisite of the vote issue is to install the program Flite. Simply following link into your browser and enter the N900. One small disadvantage here is that the voice is in English and speaks according to which all the street names also in English. This could be problematic for those people who don't know English.

With 'Line Width' the line width of the calculated route is set. The feature is quite good and can be shown more clearly based on zoom factor of the map. The front of 'Keep Display ...' prevents the display will dim after a delay and off. But this is only in full screen the case. In the selection field 'Information Font Size' can influence the displayed size of the voice / direction information. Default settings are necessary, such as km / miles, level indicator and also the desire of the speed indicator on the display. When exceeding the set speed, the display changes from black to red.

The fastest way is with the 'Download'. Since then have entered all the available maps to the correct link data. At the same nor the best path for 'Cache Dir' Fit and outsource the maps on an external memory card. Otherwise, the memory is interen up fast. Creating a single card for each source subdirectory. For 'Download zoom Steps' can be set if you want to load at any zoom the data, or (as shown on the screenshot) only at every second. Under 'View Zoom Steps "one can choose to operate at once how much of the rocker is to be zoomed.

In the tab 'Zoom', it is possible to set the download depth in the current ad zoom range. For example: If you can see on the map an area that consisted of a complete city and surrounding area (eg zoom level 4) and we are here now ticking on the number 4, the numbers 0,1,2 and 3, then this whole area is reflected in this area of the zoom level 4 is all possible and therefore charged very accurate data! mind for the entire region! If one now confirmed OK, also see how big the database is. This can ever go into the GB range! So be careful and keep the memory always in view.

Ok, so far as to install. If it is now enabled in the menu 'GPS' GPS Mouse and a reception is in the background then you should also set up the card so gradually. It is best to wait until time that a GPS signal was received. This can sometimes take up to 10 minutes. Depending on an environment and visual options of the recipient. Because if the current position of the device is not yet known, it may well be that one is on the sea and you wonder, just a blue screen is visible. When I have reliable maps of Google Street Street and VE (data from Virtual Earth) were found. A look at the satellite picture is worth…But I have now used Google Street. Because if the data twice invites this is only the memory that is already tight.
