Dell vostro 1400 Brightness keys not working

Wave guys wondering if anyone can help me, I have a Dell vostro 1400 with 4 gigs of ram is an excellent laptop. But it happens that when I connect it to power the screen brightness is reduced and I can not put the maximum (arrow arrives fn / down) and when you disconnect from the current I increases the maximum brightness. If someone could help me before hand would be amazing thanks.

First of all you should try to use the hot key and then You will have to enter the BIOS and set the brightness levels there is a scale of 1 to 8 and which indicates the maximum brightness value, certainly not you have it set to maximum when plugged in. The hot key for my laptop is Alt + F5 for increasing the brightness of my screen and again if if want to reduce it the brightness of my screen then i need to press Alt + F6.

I too have the same problem and I just had an idea while reading this issue that worked! I have a Toshiba Satellite A 210 - 17Z.J 'I turn Vista to XP Pro SP2 and installed all the toshiba driver site (success except for the keyboard). I am double clicking the ATI icon in the taskbar AC opened the program to adjust the map and the tab color is the adjustment of light contrast That if you have an ATI it should work ... for Gforce I know!

I have been facing the similar issue with my laptop which I formatted a few days ago my Vaio FE21m to install a clean system (Windows XP Pro) and I noticed that there are few function keys do not work , all was going well prior to the format. (access to key functions with the impossible blue). Could someone help me. I installed the drivers found on the Sony site (no match for the keyboard it seems). I think i am very much clear

The solution to your problem is because of the FN key drivers, It appears as the function key drivers are not installed properly.

When the FN does not work at all:
    • Go to the website of Sony in Support -> Downloads Utilities & Drivers
    • Install in order after downloading them in the section that corresponds to your Windows:
    • Sony utils.dll
    • Sony Shared Library
    • Setting Utility Series
    • VAIO Event Service

Re: Dell vostro 1400 Brightness keys not working

Sometimes this problem appears when the light is blocked or the screen goes black after closed or turned off after few minutes:

For this you need to follow the below mentioned steps.
    1. Device Manager (right click Computer or My Computer)
    2. System Devices
    3. Double click "ACPI Lid"
    4. Driver tab
    5. Update the driver
    6. Search for driver software on my computer
    7. Let me choose from a list of device drivers on my computer
    8. Uncheck "Show compatible hardware"
    9. Select "Volume Manager"
    10. Validate and reboot

Those hoping to save LOTS of people like me who have struggled to find!
