    MacBook Air and SDHC cards

Recently i bought a Micron that has unveiled new SDHC memory cards. These storage solutions are offered with an unprecedented capacity of 16 GB or 32 are certified Class 10, and display a speed of 133x. Lexar therefore indicates that these cards are capable of supporting a sustained write speed minimum of 20 MB / s SDHC memory cards of high capacity and showing good performance will become increasingly common. But it does not work with my MacBook Air. Any idea ? please help.

The Microncard is not officially on the SD standard, which limits the (artificially) to 2 GB In practice, the 4 GB cards like this exist, even if the compatibility is limited. The first problem is the file system, 4 GB cards must use the FAT32 (FAT16 is even possible), what few devices support. In addition, the internal structure poses particular problems for many cameras and some card readers do not want to read this card. Its true capacity is 3.74 GB. The first of two SDHC cards that we tested is a Classe6 4 GB (3.78 GB usable). Like all SDHC (for highcapacity), it can only be used if the drive is compatible with this standard. Despite a similar physical format to SD cards, it is not usable in a standard SD slot. It is a Classe6, so that the speed is sustained at least 6 MB / s, which indicates that the card is fast.

This weight is obtained by removing the hard drive typically found in laptops and replace it with an SSD. A very good choice that Apple had already had his MacBook Air and it should be emphasized here because all the PC makers have forgotten that SSD existed. While this limits the storage space to 64 or 128 GB of 11.6 ", but that's enough for this kind of nomadic devices. PC manufacturers have preferred to forget the DSS and moved quickly from 80 to 160 and 250GB of storage to reach 320GB mechanical models of the most upscale. That's great, it is a possible path of interest an audience.

Apple shows that it can remain on the 64GB SSD not be inconsistent with respect to uses of this type of machine. I would even say a 32GB SSD affordable device would become much success in the PC world. SSD technology is expensive but allows quick access to data and performance. If the storage space is limited, however well it fits the needs of a unit of that type of machinery on which we shall not constitute its entire digital life and certainly not a lot of games and other memory demanding applications. On a netbook you need storage for its private data, some programs and multimedia content. No need to pick 50 movies or 10,000 hours of music.

In fact, the standard SDXC, which should gradually replace the SDHC cards in electronics from the beginning of 2010, should enable speeds of up to 300 Mb / s and offer capacities up to 2TB (!) . For now, Toshiba announced last summer a 64 GB card with a speed of about 60 MB / s (which is still pretty good). SDHC card readers that currently found in computers typically use an internal USB 2.0 port, and the transfer speed of the latter is lower than that of SDXC, which could pose a problem.

I have 8 GB version that belongs specifically to the Ultra II Plus, which has a USB port in the hull of the map to increase its reach. SanDisk says that the 8GB model will sell $ 100, against $ 180 for the 16GB model and $ 350 for the 32GB model aware that 16 and 32 GB models will be delivered with excellent drive SanDisk MicroMate USB Reader 2.0. Regarding the dates of availability, expected 8 and 16 GB for the month of March, April for cons 32GB. It works with my macbook air.
