The headphone jack on the 9100 is part of F2 fan assembly so that part need to be checked. But i am not sure whether it affect the audio from the internal speakers. I know if the output jack in the F2 goes bad there will be still audio at the speaker but if the entire F2 is removed i don't know what happen. If there is palm rest connection than you will not get audio at speaker but you should get it at jack. So see that the F2 fan is working fine.

Another possibility with this type of problem is the modem. If the modem is bad it can interfere with the audio working. In most of the cases the setting might be grayed out in the audio properties. To solve this issue you can follow the instruction in the service manual to physically remove the modem. Most of the modem audio problems are resolved by physically removing it. And then reinstall the audio driver.

You can check audio chip. You can test it with dell diagnostic which would be on the original hard drive or you can download from the 9100 driver download from google. Perform this step to run Dell Diagnostics.
1)Boot the system and press F12 key as soon as it starts to boot.
2)Select Diagnostic from the boot menu. system will run PSA before DEll diagnostics starts.
3)You will see an option to open Dell diagnostics or it will open after PSA test.
4)Select custom and from there select audio test.
5)The test will start running within few second. the system will play some audio and ask you does you hear it.
6)If you don't hear the music in test it means that there is some hardware problem.
    7) If you answer no to test the test will tell you the error code.

The software is one of the most important that the sigmatel audio driver must be installed following correct order.
    1)Dell system software than restart.
2)Try to install the intel chipset software and then resart.
3)Install the drivers along with sigmatel audio driver.
Try to get the latest version available. Hope this will help you to solve your problem
