As you want the files to edit on your computer, then you may use camcorder as a virtual memory with USB, here the access of data is very fast, the hdd provides the long recording where the HDV tapes only run an hour,AVCHD is more compressed than hdv,the hd files to be moved to the computer through usb requires hours for it.

The canon HV40 has the digital emulation of 24P and 30P frame rate, this are suited for those want to shoot in cinema mode, there are Custom Key button on the lens barrel,it provides the best video quality and consists the Full HD CMOS image sensor and advanced DIGIC DV II image processor,CMOS sensor which mostly reduces power consumption and leads to good quality.

The canon HG20 costs $949, it has slight body design to HG10 which has including a 60GB internal hard drive,it has excellent video performance, powerful manual controls, it has 30P or 24P frame rates make it one of the strongest choices in hard drive camcorders, the lens is upto f/1.8-3.0 lens with a focal range of 4.8 - 57mm.
