Issue with battery on Alienware M17X-R2 laptop

I own an Alienware M17x laptop and the problem is that the battery is not able to respond well with the same. So in order to get the issue to be sorted I need the solution for the same. The system is been installed with Windows Xp. I do not know what could have caused the issue but the battery is not able to work well as being charged well it is not able to respond for long time.
