Unable to setup Gmail account on Nokia C6

I am trying to create an Gmail account on my Nokia C6 mobile phone and i have entered the username and password but i am getting an error messages every time as "unable to connect. Check settings and try again". I do not know how to get rid of this error, Please help me to setup Gmail account on my Nokia C6.
