Toshiba Tecra s-1 teac dw 224 e optical drive not working

I have a toshiba tecra s-1 teac laptop and it is been installed with Windows Xp. The problem is with the optical drive of the system. I have no idea what could have been the issue. It has caused a huge problem for me. I am not able to work well and make the changes that is needed. It will be better in order to get the desired change to be worked. Hope to get a better solution.
