    Verizon USB727

    Greetings!

I am having the hardest time. More than anything I'm trying to learn how it's possible BUT I have an old USB727 Verizon card from a friend. This card does not have an active account and I'm trying to see if it is possible to access the internet free of charge. Does anyone know how this could be possible?

I do not know the proxy settings of Verizon, but I wasn't sure if there was a program written out there (aside from Verizon's VZaccess Manager) that works to get this USB727 card hooked up to the internet???

Any assistance would be great! If you would like we can also communicate via email if you would feel more comfortable doing so. Just let me know and I will provide you with my email.

    Thanks~

I think that first you need to download the installation software of the Verizon USB727 card from here and then have to install it in your pc. This card requires you to run the Verizon software that came with it and connect to the net on a windows machine for the first time.

    1. Right click on the network manager applet on the top right portion of the screen and click edit networks.
    2. Click the mobile broadband connection and click add.
    3. Press forward. Then select T-MOBILE Internet.
    4. Name is something like "Verizon GPRS" err whatever
    5. Apply.
    6. Click edit on the newly created connection.
    7. Change the default number to #777 (THIS IS FOR VERIZON)
    8. Delete the APN string.
    9. Fill in the username: with your cards phone number
    10. Fill in your password with vzw
    Press OK

    To Connect:
Click on the top right network applet and select "Auto Mobile Broadband Connection" (CDMA)

This was done on a Ubuntu 8.10 based Operating System.

Okay, I have already downloaded the the verizon software called vzaccess manager. It uses belkin technology to connect to wifi and also the verizon network (so long as any of these are in range). In short, I am able to use this card to connect to networks I'm just unable to connect to the "Verizon Wireless - VZaccess" network (which is the one that will allow me to connect where ever I am, like a cell phone).

I tried to follow your instructions only I got lost and number 1. "Right click on the network manager applet on the top right portion of the screen and click edit networks." right click on what? I do not see "network manager", however, I do see a "networks" tab. If I click on the "networks" tab I see the "verizon wireless - vzaccess" as a network". Is this "network manager" the icon that sets on the desktop? I plugged in the wireless card and opened the software only I cannot connect to anything but my (password protected) network here at the house. I have also tried to right click on everything and anything I could in this VZAccess Manager and nothing lets me right click on it.

If I double left click on the Verizon Wireless -VZAccess as a network to connect to it acts like it is trying to connect then provides the following error messages:

"Connect failed - The remote connection was denied because the user name and password combination you provided is not recognized, or the selected authentication protocol is not permitted on the remote access server. Error 691"

If I keep trying to connect to it I get the following message:

"It appears that you are currently not signed up for service. If you are a DAYPASS customer, your session may have expired. Do you wish to sign up for service now?"

Also, your number "7. Change the default number to #777 (THIS IS FOR VERIZON)" just doesn't make any sense. It doesn't appear to be applicable to any screens on this thing. I see no place to enter any numbers.

Is there an email I can shoot you screen shots or something to? I'm trying to gain access to the Verizon Wireless -VZAccess connection because then I could have free (if I Know what I'm doing) roaming anywhere I go (which would do wonders while I'm at school/work, etc).

Anyway, if you would like please feel free to drop me a line at matthew.l.mansfield at gmail dot com

Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you (or anyone else that could possibly help me) sometime.

PS - I am using windows 7 home premium as my operating system and also using a Verizon USB727 as the USB modem; in case that helps any. Thanks again everyone!

    Re: Verizon USB727

This solution was given @ experts-exchange.com, hope that helps you.

In Control Panel -> Internet Options, on the Connections tab, highlight the connectoid VZaccess made (it should be something like ''NationalAccess-BroadbandAccess''), and click Settings. On the screen that opens click the Properties button and make notes about what all the settings are on each tab.
Cancel out of that, click the Advanced button and repeat that procedure.
Cancel, Cancel back out to the Connections tab.

Click Add, choose Dial-up to private network, Next, for phone number put in #777
(not 777, but #777, with the pound sign)

Name it, say, V740 by Windows and click Finish.

Now go through the Properties and Advanced buttons and replicate the settings from the 'National Access' connectoid. You may not need a username or password... even if they were in the VZ connectoid screens I 'd try it without any first.

Essential however is in Properties, on the General tab, be sure to set the DTE rate (listed as "Maximum speed (bps)") up to 921600 as the default 115200 won't let you get faster than about 100kbps download speeds even with full signal. After you finish duplicating all the settings and OK back out to the Connections tab, highlight the connectoid you just made and click the Set default button. Ensure that either 'Always dial my default connection' or 'Dial whenever a network connection is not present' are checked if you want the V740 to connect on demand. Now open Internet Explorer and see how much faster it connects compared to VZaccess. :-)

As an added bonus, with ICS enabled, other nodes on your network should now be able to initiate the connection too, which I don't believe is possible with VZaccess.

    Re: Verizon USB727

I followed all of the instructions with the exception of the, "on the General tab, be sure to set the DTE rate (listed as "Maximum speed (bps)") up to 921600 as the default 115200" this is because I did not see that as an option. However, I created a (V740) dial-up account using the #777 and everything seems to go smoothly when I go to connect to it. Eventually I get:

Error 691: The remote connection was denied because the user name and password combination you provided is not recognized, or the selected authentication protocol is not permitted on the remote access server.

If you continue to receive error messages, you can enable logging for analysis"

The problem is I do not have a Verizon account and I believe that in order to connect to their server you need to have a valid username and password which I do not have.

Is there a way to connect to that server using a generic or default username/password that will allow me access to their wireless environment. I know that it is possible I just need to know (understand) what I'm doing.

If you can access their coverage then you should be gold in accessing the internet where ever you go.

I have posted my email in the above entry if you would like to email me. I do not know the proxy settings of their server or the like I'm a novice in this particular area and I am just dipping my toe in the water to see if I can get this idea to work.

Thank you very much for the help you have provided so far. I look forward to hearing more from you.

    Re: Verizon USB727

Okay, I think I get it now.

    Username: ##########@vzw3g.com
    password: vzw

Where the "#"'s are replaced with your phone number you have set up through Verizon. My question is whether there is a generic or bypass number to add in the place of the "#"signs that will allow you to connect? Some sort of work-around set of numbers that allow you connection without an account?

I know tech's in the field are given these generic numbers when they are our testing different equipt. and such; is there some number like that that will allow access?

Maybe even some sort of keygen program that will work until it finds a valid match?

    Re: Verizon USB727

This is not really possible. This why because the USB modem is integrated with a Sim card which is provided by the service provider. That Sim card has phone number which acts as your identity over the network. You were then provided a access via the number. You must have a valid access to the network before using the wireless internet.

No I don't think so it is possible to have any but for your information you can contact the service provider through which you have got the card. They will help you out well for making the thing to get sort and work as needed. It will be better for you and you can make the essential changes to be implemented well. So do check out.
