All rechargeable batteries lose autonomy over time and use. More and more they get older they are used, the more their performance degrades. A typical user generally observe a significant decrease of autonomy after 18-24 months. A frequent user generally observed a significant decrease in autonomy and less than 18 months. We recommend you purchase a new battery for your laptop from Dell that its autonomy will not respond to your needs.

If a battery provides watt-hours (Whr) higher for a system and conditions of functioning Manitoulin Island areas, it usually means it has greater autonomy. For example, for the same system using the same applications, the 53Whr battery will have a range about 65% higher than that of a battery 32Whr. The duration of recharging the system varies. If the system supports ExpressCharge, the battery is typically charged to over 80% after about an hour and will be fully recharged in around 2:00 if the system is off.

Dell uses a strict qualification process for the validation of all the batteries to ensure a smooth operation and optimal performance safely. Some batteries of other brands available on the market are made to be compatible with Dell systems. Dell is not able to verify this compatibility, or to ensure the safe use of these batteries on a Dell system. Dell urges its users to use only batteries of the Dell adapted model of their notebook. Only Dell batteries are covered by a one year warranty. They are designed to ensure optimum performance and safety on Dell systems and is supported by Dell technical support throughout the warranty period.

If you are not using your battery for more than four days, these instructions will help preserve its life:

    - Do not leave batteries unused for a long time connected or related to any power source. This applies to AC and to security cards for laptops that are plugged into an outlet.
    - Laptop batteries, including batteries built into the computer, must be kept at a storage operating temperature between 0 and 35 ° C.
    - The batteries can be left inside the laptop or removed from it.
    - Charge batteries before storing. We recommend that you do not exceed 1 hour charge. This period should allow the battery to charge between 80 and 100%. (The battery will discharge gradually over time. For your information, a battery will discharge approximately 10-15% in four months).

Most Dell batteries are equipped with a composite indicator of LEDs that allows users to control the charge of battery as well as complete autonomy by simply pressing a button. Checking the charge level of your battery, pressing the button. The number of indicator lights that tell you the charge status. If all lights are lit, it means that your battery is fully charged. Each Light-up is approximately 20% load.

To check the status of the battery, hold the status button located on the indicator of battery charge for at least 3 seconds. If no lights appear, the battery is in good condition and still has more than 80% of its original charge capacity. Each light represents incremental degradation. If all five LEDs are lit, the battery provides less than 60% of its capacity and you should consider replacement.
