    Lenovo Y550 Virtualization

    Hello,
I have recently purchased lenovo Y500, I have heard that it has the feature of virtualization and I want to make use of it. But unfortunately I have no idea how this virtualization works and what it is meant for. If you guys can help me understand the concept it would be great. Also, if you have the configuration file then please post it. Thank you.

The functionality of virtualization technology ( Virtualization Technology - VT) is available on certain new Intel processors powering Some desktops ThinkCentre M52. VT can virtualize various hardware layers to the operating system. It duplicates and implements an Ethernet driver same as Microsoft Windows and Pre -OS Environment Rescue and Recovery , and it performed a "core " separate, locked together in the core operating system with features firewall and router. For the administrator , this new feature brings advanced control capabilities : filtering network traffic from Windows or OS function Pre - Rescue and Recovery , which allows more efficient monitoring of end points and greater flexibility for Antidote deployment packages . It also blocks an attack methods used by viruses and worms , while providing a method for validating the network nodes.

Antidote Delivery Manager allows IT staff to deliver fixes and updates to users wherever they are and even if their system would no longer work due to a worm or virus . And thanks to the support systems ThinkCentre M52 configured with Intel Virtualization Technology , IT staff has also added strength and flexibility to restore operations.

Lenovo has launched a real rock in the pond with its MSC solution (Secured Managed Client), which is based on an entirely different principle. It proposes to remove the hard drives of its jobs as M58p ThinkCentre M57p eco or, simply to deport them to a storage bay located on the network (Lenovo Storage Array). Instead of booting from a hard disk physically present within their unit, the machines will simply start by connecting this to a logical disk on the storage array using the iSCSI protocol. This principle of "boot from SAN is not new, but usually it is rather operated in the field of enterprise servers and not to implement an infrastructure client. With this mechanism, the Ethernet jack of the PC is used to convey commands for reading / writing to disc in IP SAN, using iSCSI, a protocol that the storage specialists are familiar. In addition, Bios such machines have been specifically developed by Lenovo to boot from a remote hard disk.

I agree with the above but it should be noted that, it must not boot all machines at the same time, which can slow down access to the workstation. To circumvent this problem, we can set up a scenario of successive boots each morning before employees arrive at their office. Another constraint, position the rack in the same building as workstations for questions latency.

Lenovo provides tools for managing servers remotely. The administration module IMM (Integrated Management Module) integrated allow the administrator to manage the new Think Server off site from a simple browser. Some models will benefit from the Premium version of IMM allow complete control of the server (mouse, keyboard, webcam ) to push the possibilities to remotely connect to a local hard disk through virtual media.
