Question about Upgrading Process of Thinkpad T60

I want to upgrade my Thinkpad T60 laptop's processor. I got this laptop a time before and now to work with Windows 7 I will need a higher processor support. For that I am not able to find out the proper specification for that. Does anyone has already upgraded that. Which is the highest processor this laptop supports. I does not want to spend amount on other hardware.

Basically the laptop is equipped with Intel processor which has SpeedStep technology. By using SpeedStep, users can select the best compromise between autonomy and performance, or even leave the device will load automatically select the most effective frequency depending on the load at any given time. It depends on your motherboard usually which cpu it supports.

I think you system is already equipped with Intel Core Duo processor. Core Duo processor also knows as dual core. You system can work with Core 2 Duo CPU. This is best suitable for all latest applications. This older processor can give around 2 GHz speed with core to duo can give you a higher clock rate. Contact the Lenovo support care for that.

Re: Question about Upgrading Process of Thinkpad T60

In comparison to other Core Duo processor the T7200 is more energy efficient. Your motherboard run on Core Duo processor. The frequency is 2GHz T7200 and T2400 is one of 1.86GHz. The T7200 is better than the T2400 because it supports Intel EM64T instructions makes it compatible with 64bit OS and application. If you use Windows Vista 32 bit, you do not see much difference between T7200 and T2400.

I think you can put Core 2 Duo in that case. I am here using Intel Core Duo which provides 2.66 MHz which is Socket 478 and a Bus: 667.0 MHz L2 Cache. I am not sure processor higher than Core 2 Duo should work. You will need to search for some mobile processor upgrades for the same. The best way is to contact the customer service cell of Lenovo.

The Thinkpad T60 belongs to the same category of the VAIO SZ1 and the Lifebook S7110. This laptop has similar dimensions. You have a very limited option of upgrades on a laptop because there the hardwares for the same is very costly. Usually the Thinkpad T60 series comes with Core Duo T2400 (1.83 GHz Yonah) processor and you can add up T7200 which gives you 2.16 Ghz or T5600 which gives you 1.83 Ghz of speed.

Re: Question about Upgrading Process of Thinkpad T60

Core 2 Duo is the new generation of Intel. The Pentium D is the older generation, dual core, but much less efficient than the C2D. As for dual core AMD, it must choose the most effective amount for a C2D. A C2D E6400, in my opinion, plays an equal footing against AMD x2 4600 or 4800. Intel core duo is a much less effective than a intel core 2 duo. But your motherboard must also meet the needs.
