But before doing reset, I have been told to copy pim.vol to my SD Card by which i wont be loosing my contact information. Now the problem is that i am not able to find out this file to restore my contacts. Does anybody here know that where it will be?

Even i am not able to find the pim.vol from my SD Card and i do not know where this file has been saved in this card. Actually i have given this SD Card to the dealer for taking up the back up of my contact details but i guess he has made some kind of mistake while copying it or is there any other way to restore it?

I would like to ask you both that are you guys are trying to copy that file on your computer or you have inserted the SD Card in your device.
Actually there would be one file named as pim.vol which in fact has been created automatically by the device. I think you should go to the root folder where this file would be present there.

I guess i have found the solution for the problem which you guys are facing.
    1. Open your FILE EXPLORER.
    2. Go to root directory.
    3. Rename current PIM.VOL to whatever you want suppose pim1.vol.
    4. Copy the backup of PIM.VOL to the root directory's pim1.vol.
    5. Wait for 60 sec. and then perform a soft reset

Actually your device creates pim.vol automatically no matter how many time you delete it so if you would be trying to replace the file with the same name on your device which might be having different properties because of which it would not be possible. I think you should try to copy the content of the file pim.vol which you have took as a backup file and copy to the pim.vol which is there at present in your device and check that all the data has been restored or not. I think it should be working now.

Re: How to restore pim.vol from sd card

I have tried the following in order to restore pim.vol.
    • Copy pim.vol from my old phone (WM6) to my desktop
    • Renamed pim.vol on my new phone tot pim1.vol.
    • Copy pim.vol from my desktop to my new phone (WM6.1)
    • Wait 60 sec.
    • Reboot
    • I get som errors en no phone-options, -reach and contacts.
    • When i try to open contacts, it starts and stops imediately.

But unfortunately i have lost my contact list.

I think step by step process would be good and safe for you to restore pim.vol from sd card. Actually you need to copy all the data from the restore pim.vol of your sd card then there would be another pim.vol already on your phone which has been created automatically which is currently in use and you have make changes in it which would be effective. So the data which you have copied, paste it in the pim.vol of your phone which is there already and then check that all the data has been restored on your phone or not.
