You can do that by setting up a wifi hotspot from the phone and then connecting your system to the wifi network. For that Go in > Settings > Wireless and Networks > Tethering > portable hotspot > Portable Wi-Fi Hostspot. Note down and the network ID and choose the security, then provide the password. You can not connect to the wifi network with the given password.

All smartphone supports usb mode where you just need to plug the phone to computer and it shows up memory card in that as removable media. You can copy paste songs and video in that. If this does not work then try to check the cable and the memory card both are working of not. There are pc suite software which comes with such phones that you can use for the same purpose. I am not sure about any kind of third party tool for this.

Do you have a wifi in your system. If yes then simply turn on the wifi and pair the device with your system. You can use this mode for data transfer and for using even internet. Almost all smartphones comes with regular wifi standard that can be paired with any system. Or else the last option is using a card reader to access the phone memory directly and moving data on it.
