If you are trying to access the GPS maps from your mobile and if your current location is in car, or under trees then it might happen that your maps does not gets loaded. Generally it takes maximum five minutes to get the full satellite signal which is needed to get connected it with the GPS device of your phone. You may try doing the same from any widely open area and check whether you are getting the same problem or not.

I think nokia uses an OVI maps which takes bit more satellite in order to navigate the locations and because of this reason i have installed a Google Maps on my Nokia E71 and this maps are just good and it takes only 2 or 3 satellites to show you the locations. And there are different kind of information that you can get from the google maps. |

If you are getting the Red Dot only when you try to open the maps using your GPS then i guess you have not uploaded the maps on your phone's gps device previously. If you have not done it yet then you need install an OVI Suite on your phone by connecting from the computer system. I suggest you to download this program from an official web site of and OVI. |

It generally takes 5 to 7 minutes to acquire satellites and "Lock In"on the Nokia E71 mobile phone. And i have seen that once you have locked in then you may go inside the home for may be 1 hour or more then that and after coming back outside in an open area, It will acquire satellites a lot quicker then normal time as you did not opened maps many time. |

I think it does not takes much time to acquire satellites, You just have to go to the Settings and then go to the General where you must be having Positioning. In this section you have to select for the Positioning Methods and then i would like to make you checking the both "Assited GPS" and "Integrated GPS". But you must be sure that you open maps and set "online" mode in internet settings. |

I would like to inform you that it does not need any GPRS enabled to access the GPS on Nokia E71 mobile phone. But still it would better if you contact to your SIM's customer care before accessing it. I am sure about the GPRS that there is nothing related with the GPS but even GPS service has been provided from your SIM services so they would be knowing it i there is any issues regarding your SIM. |
