Does Mac Mini can play 1080p videos

I am going to buy a new Mac Mini but before buying the same, I have some questions in my mind. But for now i just want to know that is this Mac Mini is able to play the 1080 pixel videos with the 1.83GHz and 2 Gb RAM? If not then up to what resolution it can support for playing the videos.

I have bought a Mac Mini and i would like to tell you that it can play the video with the 1080p resolution but i do not knot for what reason it just lags somewhere while playing these videos. I have never tried to find a solution for this as i am happy by playing the 720 pixel videos. But now i have found your thread and i guess would be getting some solutions for playing the 1080p videos on my mac mini without any problem. I guess it is possible.

Actually the resolution on your mac mini depends on the codec which you are using with it. And it also depends on the bitrate in which the video has been encoded. It depends on the format of your video as well as if it would be an AVI file then i guess it could be causing a problem as i have seen these kind of problems on many mac.

The Mac Mini GPU has only MPEG-2 decoding built in. And all the other formats have to go through the cpu which sometimes takes more amount of CPU and resulting in the lagging of your video or a frames per seconds of your videos. I agree that it also depends on the codec used to have video and bit rate as well.

I am using Mac Mini with which i have tried watching the videos on my Vizio which is a 42" TV. I have gone through this resolution problem as it was just playing the 1366×768 but then i have found that if i want to play the videos with the 1920×1080 resolution then i need to use a DVI to HDMI cable from the HDMI port.
I have bought a 10 feet HDMI cable for $20. I guess you should do the same with your mac mini.

By using the latest VLC player you can get the full resolution of 1080 p.
Go to the Preferences menu and then make sure there that an Advanced has been selected. Then go to the Inputs/Codecs > Other codecs > and select for the FFMpeg. “Skip the loop filter for H.264 decoding” and chose “All”. Now i guess you would be able to play the videos in 1080 p.

I have found the way by which you can get the 1080 p resolution from your mac mini. You have go to the Displays control panel on the Mac Mini if you have installed a Leopard then there would be lots of video choices available. You have to enable the checkbox that says “Show displays in menu bar”. Now the displays icon appears in the menu bar and there will be two 1920×1080 options but you have to choose an other one and see that are you able to get the full 1080p resolution.
