It appears as some other backgroud processes are still running on your mac which may be causing this error and hence i will suggest you to disable all the process running in the background this will surely help you to get this problem solved. Also check for the startup program which may also be the culprit behind this situation.

Try to put in the trash the preferences file system may be corrupt. the file is "com.apple.systempreferences.plist" located in user / Library / Preferences. This is often enough to update an application that binds. As soon as you trash this file on your mac system your problem should be solved hopefully. All the best

You should go into the Utilities folder located itself in the Applications folder. then throw Disk Utility. Then, in the left column, you choose your hard drive and in the First Aid tab, search and click on verify permissions (and if necessary Repair Permissions) located at the bottom of your window.

Use AppleScript which is a programming language developed by Apple which allows you to perform actions for different applications being used In the latest iterations of Mac OS X even the system performance can be edited with this, Apple provides more Automator, which is another way (more affordable for the layman but less complete in some ways) to automate routine operations.
