HP pavilion DV5000 won't boot

I was using my HP pavillion dv5000 1334ca, and then I shut it down. I restarted the computer minutes later (the laptop did not move, and no changes were brought to the system). HP BIOS Splash screen comes up for a few seconds, then I get thrown to a black screen, with only a blinking line in the upper-left corner. The hard disk was not being accessed. So I tried booting from a Linux Live CD. For this I had to go into the boot load menu. Pressed ESC, briought to the same black screen. CD-ROM and HDD not being accessed. CXleared the CMOS, by removing battery, power adapter, and the button-cell battery under a cover under the pc. waited 5 mins, replaced it, and the power adapter. Same problem. I need help, as this laptop is used for school

How old is your laptop? Before shutting down your laptop did you install any software or even installed something unusual or saw something unusual going on in your laptop? Can you open up the laptop and check if whether the hard drive cable is loose or so? In case if it is under warranty then I would suggest you to take it at the service center without opening the laptop.
