    Macbook crashing frequently

I have been using Mac systems for a while now but have never faced such a problem with it before. I have a Macbook which is installed with Mac OS X 10.3 on it. The Macbook worked fine till I tried to upgrade the operating system on it. I upgraded the operating system on the Macbook from 10.3 to 10.4 and now the Macbook crashes frequently. When any application is tried to open, it remains in the system busy state for long time. How to solve this issue? Please help.

It looks like the hard drive of th system is failing. All the data and the applications which are installed on the computer are stored on the hard drive of the computer. If the hard drive of the computer has developed bad sectors on it then the system will not be able to access the hard drive and will create problems like the one which you are facing. Therefore I would suggest that you get the hard drive of the Macbook checked by some technician. You can also download and run different diagnostic tools on the hard drive and try to repair the errors of the hard drive.

Most of the problems which are related to the Mac systems are solved by doing a PRAM reset. Sometimes invalid entries get stored in the system RAM. If th system RAM gets flooded with the invalid entries then the system will not be able to access the system RAM. To bring the Macbook back to working state you will have clear all the invalid entries. To clear all the invalid entries from the system RAM, you will have to perform PRAM reset. Follow the steps below :-
    • Locate the following keys (R, P, Apple and Option)
    • Press the following keys while booting the computer.
    • Keep the buttons pressed till 3 start up chimes are heard.
    • Release all the keys when 3rd start up chime is heard.
    • Let the system boot.

I think the operating system on the Macbook is not working properly due to which you are facing such problems. There are lot of files which are associated to the operating system of the computer. If any of the file which is associated to the operating system of the computer is corrupt or missing then the system will not work properly. Insert the installation disc of the operating system in the drive and boot the system from the installation disk. Install the operating system in install/archive mode and let the procedure complete. Check the performance of the computer after reinstallation of the operating system.

Check all the applications which are installed on the Macbook. The applications which are installed on the computer has many files. If the application which is installed has any corrupt files in it, then there is high possibility that the system will not work properly after installation such applications. Therefore check if there are any applications which are installed on the computer which may create such problems on the computer. If there are any corrupt applications installed, then remove the application and see if the Macbook works properly.

Open the activity monitor and check all the processes which are running on the Macbook. For every process to be executed on the computer, some CPU and memory usage is allocated. Hence if lot of processes are executed on the computer together the system memory of the Macbook will get depleted. If the system memory gets depleted, the system will crash. Therefore open the Activity monitor and check all the processes which are running. Terminate all the processes which are unnecessary and taking up lot of memory space. After terminating unnecessary process see if the system crashes or not.
