Sync error " no disk in drive message - do not disconnect IPOD"

Hello people, Few days back I bought an Apple Ipod classic 160gb which was working fine. I connect the Ipod to the desktop computer which has Windows XP installed on it and use iTunes 9 to sync the Ipod. Earlier I was using iTunes 8 to sync the Ipod but got it upgraded to iTunes 9 and now when the iPod is connected is gives Sync error " no disk in drive message - do not disconnect on IPOD" . What does this error mean? How to solve this error? Please help.

I will suggest that you check the USB cord which you are using to connect the Ipod to the computer. USB cord consist of many lines of conductors which can get damaged due to improper handling or storage. If any of the lines of the conductor is damaged then the communication between the computer and the device will not be proper which will lead to problems which are similar to one which you are facing. Hence change the USB cord which you are using and see if you are able to sync the iPod or not.

There are lot of files which are associated to the application. If any of the files which is related to the application corrupt or missing on the system then the application will not work properly. The only solution to such kind of problem is to replace all the files which are corrupt or missing on the system. Remove iTunes from the computer and remove all the files/keys which are related to iTunes from the computer. Reboot the computer and reinstall itunes on the computer. Connect the Ipod and try to sync it. Hopefully it will work.

It can be due to some virus which has infected the iTunes which is installed on the computer. Virus's get downloaded while visiting certain websites or while downloading certain data from the Internet. Also virus's have the tendency of getting linked with the files of the application which are frequently used. If such a situation occurs then the application whose file has been infected will not work properly. Hence scan the system and check all the files which are infected. Repair or quarantine the files which are infected. Do not delete any infected files as it may lead to system failure. After repairing the infected files, check if the iPod gets detected or not.

As the Ipod is new, I would suggest that you take the Ipod to the nearest Apple service center. All the apple products are covered with 1 year Apple care warranty under which any fault in the device is serviced for free if the device has not undergone any physical damage. Therefore take the Ipod to the nearest Apple service center and get it checked. The technicians at the service center will check the iPod thoroughly and if the iPod is faulty, you will get it replaced for free.

Have tried resetting the Ipod and then connecting it to computer? Ipod also has an operating system which is responsible for proper working of iPod. Like any other software, the operating system of the iPod can also get stuck in some loop while executing some command. If the operating system gets stuck in some loop, then the iPod will not get detected when it is connected to the computer. To bring the iPod to working state, you will have to reset the Ipod. To reset the ipod, press and hold the menu and center click button. Keep the buttons pressed till Grey apple logo appears. Once the grey apple logo appears, release the button and let the iPod start. Connect the iPod to the computer and see if it is detected.
