The information which is required for computer to boot is saved due to the battery which is located on the motherboard of the computer. Open the laptop and locate the battery on the motherboard of the laptop. Remove the battery and check the voltage across the battery using a Digital multimeter. The voltage of the battery should be between 2.5 volts to 3 volts. If the voltage of the battery is less than 2.5 volts then the system will not boot. Therefore change the battery on the motherboard and see if it helps.

I think the battery of the laptop is out of charge and hence the laptop is not booting. Sometimes the battery of the laptop does not get charged when it is connected to the AC adapter and hence the laptop will only work till the battery has enough charge to provide power to the laptop. Connect the laptop to the AC adapter and check if the battery is charging. Let the battery charge for about 3 to 4 hours. Once the battery has enough charge, try booting the computer and see if it helps.

Lot of laptops face the problem with residual charge that is stored near the RAM chips of the laptop. When the residual charge reaches a threshold level, the system will not be able to access the RAM chips and hence the laptop will not boot. You will have to clear the residual charge which is stored on the laptop inorder to bring the laptop to working state. To clear the residual charge from laptop, shut down the laptop and disconnect it from the AC source. Remove the battery and press the power button. Keep the power button pressed for about 30 seconds. Replace the battery and try booting the computer.

I will suggest you to take your laptop to the authorized service center of Dell and get the laptop checked. All the Dell products which are available have a 1 year warranty under which any problem which is not caused by physical damage are repaired for free. Hence take the laptop to the Dell care center and get it checked. The technician will check the laptop and will list all the problems which are associated to the laptop. If the laptop is under warranty, then it will be serviced for free else some service charge will be levied along with the cost of the hardware which is replaced.

Re: No power on Dell Inspiron 1720

As the laptop is not receiving any power, I think there is some issue with the power supply unit of the laptop. Every component which is connected to the computer, require a some voltage level which has to be provided. If correct voltage levels are not provided then the computer will not boot. Motherboard is responsible for providing correct voltage levels to all the devices. If the motherboard of the computer is faulty, it will not work properly. Therefore get the motherboard of the laptop checked and if it is faulty, get it replaced.
