    Dell XPS m2010 won't boot

Hello there, I have a Dell XPS m2010 laptop which is installed with Windows XP operating system. The laptop was working fine for about a year but now the laptop does not boot. Whenever the power button is pressed, it shows that the operating system is booting, then gives an error and asks to boot in safe mode. The system does not boots in safe mode and again gives error. Sometimes the laptop does not boot at all, All the LED's on the laptop glow when the laptop is started. I cant figure out what is causing such problem and hence need your help. Therefore if anybody knows why my Dell XPS m2010 laptop won't boot then please suggest some solutions. Any help is highly appreciated.

The operating system on the computer is failing and hence you are facing such problems. The operating system has lot of files which are associated to it. If any of the files which is associated to the operating system is corrupt or missing on the system then the laptop will not boot. You will have to replace all the files which are corrupt or missing on the system. If you have the installation disk of the operating system which you are using, then boot the system from the disk. Repair the current installed version of the Windows operating system and then see if the problem is solved or not.

Check the hard drive of the computer. The operating system is saved on the hard drive of the computer. If the system is not able to access the hard drive then it will not able to load the operating system. Open the laptop and remove the hard drive of the laptop. Connect the hard drive of the laptop to some other computer and check if it is getting detected. If the hard drive is detected then run all the diagnostic tests on the hard drive. If there are any errors in the hard drive, see if they can be solved else you will have to replace the hard drive of the computer as it is faulty.

There is a battery on the motherboard which is responsible for saving all the settings which are required for the computer to boot. Open the laptop and then locate the battery on the motherboard. Remove the battery and check the voltage across the battery using a Digital multimeter. The voltage of the battery is 2.5 volts to 3 volts. If the voltage of the battery is less than 2.5 volts then the laptop will not boot. Replace the battery if the voltage of the battery is less than 2.5 volts.

Re: Dell XPS m2010 won't boot

Most of the laptops face the problem with residual charge. Residual charge gets stored near the RAM chips of the laptop. If the residual charge near the RAM chips goes above the threshold voltage then the system will not be able to access the RAM chips. To bring the computer back to working state, you will have to clear the residual charge from the laptop. To clear the residual charge, shut down the laptop and disconnect it from the AC source. Remove the battery of the laptop. Press the power button for about 30 seconds. Replace the battery and see if the laptop is booting.

Motherboard of the computer is responsible for controlling all the functions which are performed by the computer. It is responsible for providing correct voltage levels to all the components which are connected to it. Hence if the motherboard is faulty then the laptop is bound to give such problems. Therefore get the motherboard checked and if the motherboard is faulty, get it replaced. Once the motherboard is replaced, you will not face the same problem again.
