Performance issues with HP dv7 laptop

I have a HP DV7 series laptop which is installed with Windows XP operating system. The laptop has an internet connection and default browser is Internet explorer. The laptop was working fine but from past few days the performance of the computer is really slow. All the applications take lot of time in opening. Sometimes the laptop does not start when the power button is pressed. I cant figure out what is causing such problems and hence need your help in solving the problem. Therefore if anybody else is facing Performance issues with HP dv7 laptop then please suggest some solutions/suggestions about the issue. Thanks in advance.

I suspect that the computer is infected by some virus due to which the performance of the laptop is suffering. Virus's get downloaded while visiting some website or while downloading some data from the internet. Virus's have the tendency to link with the files of the operating system. If such a situation occurs then the operating system of the computer will not work properly. Therefore scan the system with some antivirus and then check for all the files which are infected. Repair or quarantine the files which are infected and check if the performance of the computer improves or not. If the number of files of the operating system which are infected is more then you will have to reinstall the operating system on the computer.

Some applications have problems with the code written. Due to improper coding the executable files of such applications take up lot of memory and CPU usage when executed. Such applications are called leaky applications as they cause leak in the system memory. Such applications degrade the performance of the computer a lot therefore it is important to terminate such applications. To terminate such applications, open the task manager and open the processes tab. Check which of the process is taking up lot of memory and terminate it accordingly. After terminating the leaky processes, see if the performance of the computer improves.

By looking at the problem, I think it is an operating system issue. Operating system of the computer is responsible for taking all the logical decisions. The operating system of the computer has lot of files which are associated to it. If any of the files which is associated to the operating system gets corrupt or missing on the computer then the operating system will not work properly. Therefore you will have to reinstall the operating system. Insert the installation disk of the operating system in the drive and boot the system from the drive. Repair the installation of operating system and then check the performance of the laptop.

Check if the system is getting overheated while operating as it can be one of the reasons behind the problem. Whenever the CPU of the computer processes any application, it gets heated up. Therefore if lot of applications are executed then the processor of the computer will get heated up faster. If the temperature of the CPU crosses the threshold then the performance of the computer degrades. So check if the cooling fan of the laptop is working properly or not. If the cooling fan of the laptop is covered with dust then clean it as dust can block the airflow in the laptop.

There is battery situated on the motherboard of every computer which is responsible for saving all the settings which are required for booting of the computer. Open the laptop and locate the battery on the motherboard. Remove the battery and check the voltage across the battery. The voltage should be between 2.5 volts to 3 volts. If the voltage of the battery is less than 2.5 volts then the computer will not boot and hence you will have to replace the battery of the computer. Once the battery is replaced, you will not face such problems while booting the system.
