Acer Aspire 1640z laptop does not boot

Hello, I have an Acer Aspire 1640z laptop which is installed with Windows XP operating system. The laptop was working fine but from few days I am not able to start the laptop. Whenever the power button is pressed, all the LED's of the laptop glow but does not boot. The laptop only shows Black screen. So if anybody can explain me why Acer Aspire 1640z laptop does not boot then it would be really very helpful. Please help.

The battery of the laptop must be out of charge due to which you are not able to start the laptop. If the battery of the laptop does not have enough charge then it wont be able to provide enough power to the laptop to boot. This happens because sometimes the battery of the laptop does not get charged when the AC adapter is connected. Therefore connect the AC adapter and let the laptop charge for about 3 to 4 hours. After charging the laptop for about 4 hours, try booting the laptop and check if it is booting.

The battery on the motherboard of the laptop is responsible for saving all the BIOS settings which are required for booting the computer. If the battery voltage goes below the threshold then the laptop will not boot. Open the laptop and locate the battery on the motherboard. Remove the battery and check the voltage across the battery using Digital multimeter. The voltage should be between 2.5 to 3 volts. If the voltage is less than 2.5 volts then the laptop will not boot. Therefore replace the battery and then check if the laptop is booting or not.

Mostly all the laptops face the problem with Residual charge. Residual charge gets stored near the RAM chips. If the voltage of the Residual charge exceeds the limit then the system will not be able to access the RAM and hence the system will not boot. To clear the residual charge from the laptop, shut down the laptop and disconnect it from the AC source. Remove the battery and press the power button of the laptop. Keep the buttons pressed for about 30 seconds. After 30 seconds replace the battery in the laptop and press button to start the laptop.

All the functions which are performed by the computer are controlled by the motherboard. If the motherboard of the computer is faulty then it will not boot at all or will give some problems while working. The power distribution to all the devices is also controlled by motherboard hence get the motherboard of the computer checked by some technician. If the motherboard of the laptop is faulty then get it replaced. Once the motherboard is replaced, you will not face same problems again.

Open the laptop and remove the RAM chips from the respective slots. Clean the connecting terminals of the RAM and then replace it back in its respective slots. If there are multiple chips then try booting the laptop using single chip at a time. If for any particular RAM chip the laptop does not boot then discard the Chip as it may be faulty. If all the RAM chips are faulty then you will have to replace all the RAM chips.
