Re: Slow performance in Dell C840 laptop

Slow performance of the computer is directly indicating that the storage space on the hard drive is getting depleted. Whenever the hard drive of the computer is close to getting full, the performance of the computer slows down. This is a normal phenomenon. To solve such kind of issue Windows XP provides us with a system tool known as Disk De-fragment. Use this system tool on the hard drive of your computer and then see if the performance of the laptop improves or not.

Re: Slow performance in Dell C840 laptop

The performance of the computer system depends on the system memory. Higher the system memory, faster is the performance of the computer. Hence to improve the performance of the computer, try and increase the system memory or the RAM of the computer. The files of all the application which are to be executed are first stored in the RAM. Hence the RAM memory gets easily used up and the system performance degrades when the RAM memory is nearly full. Hence to improve the system performance of the laptop, upgrading the system memory is must.

All the functions which are performed by the computer are controlled by the motherboard. If the motherboard itself is faulty then the computer will not work properly. As you are facing some problems while booting the computer I think the motherboard of the computer is faulty. Get the motherboard checked by some technician and get the list of all the faults which are there in the motherboard. If the motherboard is faulty then there is no other option than to replace the motherboard of the laptop.

Re: Slow performance in Dell C840 laptop

There is a small battery on the motherboard of the laptop. If the voltage of this battery falls below a certain level then the computer faces some problems while booting. If you can open the laptop, then open it and locate the battery on the laptop. Remove the battery and then check the voltage across the battery using Digital multimeter. The voltage of the battery should be around 2.5volts to 3volts. If the voltage of the battery is less than 2.5 volts then you will have to replace the battery. Replacing the battery will solve the problem.

Re: Slow performance in Dell C840 laptop

If lot of processes are running on the computer, then it takes lot of time to open certain application. This happens because the processor takes lot of time to process the new application. Check if there are any unwanted processes running on the computer. To check all the processes running on the computer, Press Ctrl, Alt and Delete to open the task manager. Once the task manager is open, open the processes tab. Check which of the processes are unwanted and taking up lot of CPU and memory usage. Terminate such processes and then see if the performance of the computer improves or not.
