Blank screen issues in Sony Vaio laptop

Hello there, I have a Sony Vaio VGN-NS10L/S series laptop with Windows XP operating system. The laptop was working fine till yesterday when it suddenly shut itself down while downloading some data from the Internet. Now whenever the power button of the laptop is pressed all the LED's flash and the laptop gives blank screen, nothing else happens. I cant figure out if this is any hardware issue or a software issue? Therefore if anybody else is facing the Blank screen issues in Sony Vaio laptop then please share some information about the same. Any suggestions are more than welcome.

The main battery of the laptop must have got out of charge which caused the laptop to shut down. Many times it happens that the battery of the laptop keeps on draining the charge even if the AC adapter is plugged in. The switchover to the AC main line does not occur. If such situation occurs then the laptop will only work as long as the battery of the laptop has enough charge left in it to keep the laptop running. Hence plug in the AC adapter and let the battery of the laptop charge for about two hours. Once the battery has enough charge to run the laptop, disconnect it from the AC source and try booting the laptop.

The files which are required for the operating system to boot are first copied in the system RAM. These files are then executed from the system RAM to boot the operating system. If the system is not able to access the RAM then files which are required for the operating system to boot are not copied into the RAM and hence the operating system does not boot. Open the laptop and take out the RAM chips. Clean the connecting terminals of the RAM and then replace back in the respective slots. Try booting the computer. If there are multiple RAM chips then try booting the computer by using 1 ram chip at a time.

All the portable computers face the problem with the residual charge. Residual charge gets stored near the RAM of the computer. Due to the residual charge the computer will not be able to access the RAM of the computer. If such a situation occurs then the operating system will not be able to load. To clear the laptop from the residual charge, shut down the laptop and disconnect it from the power source. Remove the battery of the laptop and press the power button. Keep the button pressed till 30 seconds and then release it. Let the laptop sit for a minute and then replace the battery and try to boot the system.

Motherboard of the computer follows all the functions which are carried out by it. If the motherboard of the computer itself is faulty then the computer is bound to give some problems while working. By looking at the problem it seems like the motherboard of the laptop is faulty and hence the laptop is not able to boot. Get the motherboard of the laptop checked by some technician. If there is some problem with the motherboard of the laptop then replace the motherboard and see if the laptop is booting or not.

There is a button cell on the motherboard which helps control all the function of the motherboard. The voltage of the button cell must be maintained above certain level so that the computer works normally. Therefore open the laptop and locate the battery on the motherboard. Remove the battery and then check the voltage of the battery with a DMM. The voltage of the battery should be around 2.5 to 3 volts. If the voltage of the battery is less than 2.5 volts then replace the battery and then see if the laptop is working or not.
