Acer Aspire 9420 does not start

I have been using Acer Aspire 9420 laptop for a year now and never faced such a problem with it before. The laptop has Windows 7 operating system installed on it. Last night I was watching online videos when suddenly the laptop shut itself down. After shutdown the Acer Aspire 9420 does not start. It only boots till the BIOS screen and then gives BSOD. I cant figure out what is causing the problem and hence need your help in solving the issue. Any suggestions and solutions are welcome.

As the laptop shut itself down on its own, it is possible that the battery is out of charge. Whenever the battery of the laptop is low on charge, it will shut itself down to save the laptop from any damage. Therefore connect the laptop to the power adapter and charge the battery for sometime. Let the battery charge for about 2 hours and then try booting the laptop by pressing the power button. See if the laptop starts after the battery is charged.

I think a virus would be behind this as the computer shut itself down while watching online videos. Virus can create all sorts of the problem in computer including the one which you are facing. Open the laptop and remove the hard drive of the laptop. Connect the hard drive of the laptop to some other computer and scan the hard drive of the laptop for any virus's. If there are any infected files found on the laptop then either repair or quarantine the files which are infected. Once the files which are infected are taken care of, connect the hard drive to the laptop and then try to start the computer.

There is high possibility that the RAM of the system has gone bad due to which the system is not able to start. System RAM of the computer is very important while booting. All the files which are required by the computer to boot the operating system are first loaded in the system RAM. If the system is not able to access the RAM of the computer then it will not be able to boot the system. Open the laptop and remove the RAM chips. Clean the connecting terminals and replace them back in their respective slots. If you have multiple RAM chips try booting the system by using one RAM chip at a time.

All the laptops face problems with the residual charge which is stored around the RAM chips. Due to the residual charge which is stored around the RAM, the computer is not able to access the RAM. Hence it is required to discharge the residual charge from time to time for proper working of the computer. To remove the residual charge from the computer, Shut down the laptop and disconnect it from the AC source. Remove the battery of the laptop. Now press and hold the power button for about 30 seconds and then release it. Let the laptop sit for about a minute and then replace the battery and the power adapter to the laptop. Now try booting the computer, Hopefully it works.

BSOD generally indicates the operating system failure on the computer. If the operating system which is installed on the computer is corrupt then the computer will not be able to load the operating system and will generate BSOD. The only solution to your problem is to reinstall the operating system on the laptop. If you have the install disk of the Windows 7 then insert it in the drive and boot the system from the disk. Installer will load and will give you different options. Either select Windows repair option or Select Fresh copy installation option. Before starting the installation process, try and take the backup of the important data.
