HTPC in short, is a "Home Theater Personal Computer, a computer designed to be in the living room to accompany the TV. Although quite some years the idea spread among some that the future was outlined with a PC in the lounge, it is certain that other specialized devices that are taking their place: consoles and personal video recorders like Tivo or In / Out are The two alternatives that have become harder to stay with TV of the house, along with the Image or Digital. The HTPC or Media Centers in the end are more complex devices, with more possibilities, but also less specialized in a more demanding work and configuration.

The problem of having a HTPC do multiple tasks is that it becomes more difficult to integrate the software and yet your wallet gets thinner and thinner. Instead of starting with a full-fledged HTPC, let's start with a very introductory approach to the HTPC and then through follow-up articles, adding features. Setting a good Home Theater PC (HTPC) is a delicate balance of noise, energy and heat. You also want to make sure you have plenty of storage space for all your digital media and the ability to bring new sources (TV, DVD, etc) and, potentially, create your own.

Precisely one of the weaknesses of previous Media Center PC was that, a Media Center software that, at least for the Hispanic market, did not quite work well. This has been fixed in Windows Vista, since the function which incorporates Media Center if it works as it should, as soon as Windows is concerned, the Home Premium version is a good option.
