Slow performance in Acer Laptop

Hello guys, Last year I bought an Acer Aspire laptop which has Windows XP installed on it. The laptop was working fine for a year now, but from few days the performance of the laptop has become very slow. I have installed Norton security software to protect my computer against any virus. All the applications take long time to start. I cant figure out what is causing such a slow performance in the Acer laptop. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance.

How much is the system memory of your computer? The performance of the computer mainly depends on the system memory of the computer. RAM in the computer should be large to enhance the performance of the computer. Larger the RAM faster is the computer. Check the size of the RAM of your system. If it is less then try and upgrade the RAM on your computer. Upgrading the RAM on your computer will help you improve the system performance of the system.

The performance of the computer can get degraded if the hard drive of the system is getting full. When the hard drive starts getting full, the operating system takes lot of time to access the data on the drive which results in files and folders opening slowly. Also the applications which are installed on the system open up slowly as they are also stored on the hard drive. Check the free space on the hard drive. If the free space on the hard drive is less than 100mb then free up some space on the hard drive by deleting some unwanted data.

If the processor and other peripherals of the laptop are not cooled properly then the performance of the computer slows down due to heating of devices. The cooling of the laptop is mainly dependent on the cooling fan of the laptop. Check if the cooling fan of the laptop is working properly or not. If the fan is covered with dust, clean the surrounding of the fan and the fan blades. Once the cooling fan is cleaned, check if the performance of the laptop improves or not. You can also buy extra cooling pads for the laptop if needed.

Re: Slow performance in Acer Laptop

The reason behind the slow performance of the laptop is Norton Security software which you have installed on your laptop. Norton security takes up lot of processing power along with lots of memory. As the application takes up majority of processes and memory of the system, the computer takes long time to respond to other applications and hence the performance of the computer suffers. Try to remove the Norton security software and then see if the performance of the application improves or not. I am sure after uninstalling the Norton security software you will not face the same problem again.

Re: Slow performance in Acer Laptop

When the computers performance slows down, press control, alt and delete and open the task manager. In the task manager, go to Processes tab and check all the running processes. If there are any unwanted processes running on the computer which are taking up more memory space and CPU then terminate such processes. After terminating such processes check if the performance of the computer improves. You can also remove the recently installed application from the computer as it can be the reason behind the memory and CPU leakage.
