Problems with Internal Mic in Acer Aspire 5338

Hello there, I have Acer Aspire 5338 laptop which has Windows XP and Windows Vista operating system. The laptop has built in Mic which is giving some problems lately. The Mic sometime works and sometime does not work. When the system is booted in Windows Vista it cannot be disabled and gives a constant cracking sound from the speakers. While when Windows XP is loaded the MIC does not work while recording. I suppose that the problems which I am facing are due to hardware failure as the Laptop does not starts sometimes when the power button is pressed. So if anybody is facing Problems with Internal Mic in Acer Aspire 5338, please suggest some solutions.

I think your computer is corrupted by some kind of virus which is creating such problem. Virus's have the tendency to get linked with files of the operating system which are used frequently. If the files get infected by virus then the operating system will not be able to access the files. Hence scan the system with an updated antivirus and then check for the infected files. Repair or quarantine the infected files and then check if the Mic works properly or not.

The problem which you are facing can be because of the operating system failure. Sometimes during installation of the operating system all the files which are required for operating system to work properly are not copied to the hard drive of the system. If the missing files are needed by the system for running certain applications then the system gives an error. You can either try to find and replace the files which are missing on the system or try to install the operating system again on the computer. If the installer gives repair options, then try and repair the operating system.

Check if the drivers for the microphone are installed and working properly on the computer. If the drivers of the device are not installed on the computer then the device does not work properly and gives errors like the one which you are facing. Check for the installed drivers on both the operating system. To check the status of the drivers, go to device manager and then highlight the installed microphone. If there are any caution sign against it, then follow the troubleshooting procedure and see if the microphone works or not. If troubleshooting does not work then try installing the drivers again and update them.

All the laptops face the problem with residual charge. Residual charge gets stored up near the RAM chips. This stored charge has capacitive effect on the RAM due to which the system is not able to access the RAM. If the system is not able to access the RAM then it wont start. Therefore the residual charge needs to be cleared. To clear the residual charge, disconnect the laptop from the external source of power and shut down the laptop. Remove the battery and then press the power button for 30 seconds. After 30 seconds release the power button and replace the battery.

It is possible that the motherboard of the laptop is faulty and hence you are facing such problems with the laptop. All the functions which are carried out by the computer are controlled by the motherboard. If the motherboard itself is faulty then the devices connected to it wont work or the computer will not start. As you are facing both the symptoms, I think the motherboard of your laptop is faulty and needs to be replaced. Take the laptop to Acer service center and get it checked. If the motherboard is faulty, get it replaced.
