As the laptop is old there must be some hardware related issue with it. I would suggest that you must get the laptop checked by some technician. Let the technician check the laptop thoroughly and let him list all the problems with the laptop. Find the cost for repairing all the problems of laptop and if it is high then buying a new laptop would be sensible choice.

Check the AC power adapter which you are using for the laptop. It is possible that the power adapter of the laptop has developed some problems due to which it is not able to provide the exact power required for the laptop to charge. Check the output voltage of the AC power adapter with a digital power adapter. The value of the voltage should be near to the value which is specified on the adapter, if the value is less than the specified value then you will have to replace the AC adapter. Meanwhile try connecting the laptop to some other power charger and check if the laptop is charging. Before connecting the laptop to other charger, check the power ratings of the laptop and then adapter. If the ratings match then only you should connect the laptop to the adapter.

Re: Battery of Dell XPS M1330 wont charge

Usually life of the battery is less than a year. Every battery has charging cycle limits. Whenever the battery is charged the charging cycle limit decreases. Hence as the charging cycle limit is approached the battery starts draining the charge faster and after some time it becomes unusable. As you have been using the laptop for more than a year now, it is possible that the charging cycle limit of the battery must be over and hence the battery of the laptop is not getting charged. You can check the voltage across the battery terminals and checked with the specified value of voltage on the battery. Replacing the battery will solve the problem.

Re: Battery of Dell XPS M1330 wont charge

All the power functions of the computer are controlled by the motherboard of the computer. If the motherboard itself develops fault then the computer will start giving some random errors. The charging of the battery of the laptop is controlled by the power management IC on the motherboard. If this IC develops some problem then the battery will not get charged at all. Hence take the dell laptop to the dell service center and get it checked. If the motherboard is faulty then there is no other option but to replace the motherboard of the laptop.
