| Acer Aspire One Hibernate mode problem
Hello there, I have recently bought an Acer Aspire one laptop which previously had Linux operating system on it. Recently I upgraded the operating system on the laptop to Windows XP. I was surfing Internet on the laptop when it suddenly went in to hibernating and now it wont come out of it. I am really freaked out as the laptop is new. Whenever the power button is pressed, All the LED's flash once but the laptop does not start. Therefore If anybody else who is facing Hibernating mode issues with Acer Aspire one, then please share some information as it would be useful in solving the problem. |

Every Acer product comes with an One year company warranty, during this one year any problems which the user is facing with the laptop other than physical damage are serviced for free. As the laptop is new, it will be covered by the company warranty and hence I would suggest you to take the laptop to the nearest Acer service center and get the laptop checked. The technician at the Acer service center will check the problem and will list all the problems with your laptop. If there is any hardware which is to be replaced, it will be replaced for free. Before doing any troubleshooting procedure by yourself, first take the laptop to the service center.

The operating system which you have changed on the laptop must have created the problem on your computer. Acer aspire one comes with built in Linux operating system and it is adviced not to change the operating system on the laptop. As you have changed the operating system it is not working properly. If you have the installation disk of Windows Xp then insert it again in the drive and boot the computer from the installation disk. Install the Windows operating system again on the computer. During installation, format enter hard drive of the laptop.

If you were on battery power mode while surfing Internet then it is possible that the battery is out of charge and hence the laptop is not starting. You have mentioned that the all the LED's on the laptop blink when the power button is pressed, it is indication that the battery has no charge left. Connect the A/c adapter of the laptop to the laptop and then try to start the computer using A/c power source or let the battery charge for sometime and then start the laptop.

In laptops residual static charge gets stored near the system RAM. If the charge gets stored near the system RAM then the system will not be able to access the RAM due to capacitive effect. Hence it is necessary to remove this static charge from the laptop in order to boot the system successfully. To remove the residual static charge, Disconnect the laptop from the AC power source and then remove the battery. Once the battery is removed, press the power button and keep it pressed for about 60 seconds. After 60 seconds release the button and then reconnect the battery. Now see if the system boots or not. |

I think the battery on the motherboard of the laptop has drained of the charge and hence your laptop is not booting. The battery on the motherboard is responsible for saving all the settings on the BIOS. If the battery gets drained of then the BIOS gets reset which sometimes is responsible for the computer for not starting. Open the laptop and then locate and remove the battery from the motherboard. Check the voltage across the battery using DMM. The voltage should be above 2.5 volts. If the voltage is less than 2.5 then you will have to replace the battery. |
