Speed issue with compaq presario v5000

Hi,
I am using compaq presario v5000 laptop and rightnow I am in need of some help if anyone can suggest me some good ideas for my laptop which is running very slow. A couple of days before my video playback software became very slow on my laptop, I made a reboot of my laptop which took about seven minutes just to load windows after that when i clicked on the user account which i wanted to use, it took more five minutes to load the programs in window. The sound of the basic windows stutters all of the time. and when I load IE it becomes very slow to load. I have also noticed that the mouse pad and couple of inches to the left has now became very warm when i touch it. This means that my processor where it is located the fan might have failed.

I think you have to clean out the air vents which is located in your laptop. You have stated that your are experiencing warm on your laptop's left side, if there is a reason of overheating then this warm effect can chock the vents, it can cause your CPU to throttle down to avoid damage. When this kind of thing happens, this can do everything very slow because the 1.8 GHz cpu may be operating at 200 MHz due to which the system can be slower down.

Re: Speed issue with compaq presario v5000

After seeing your problem of speed with your laptop, I would say that there could be a lot of reasons for the issue that your are facing, it could be some kind of virus. But I'll show you the easiest way to check that what is wrong with your laptop, you are running xp or vista there is not much difference, if you go to the task manager, do a right click on your taskbar, this will let you know what all programs are running on your computer. When it system runs slow, check and find out which program is running, from my side it could be a antivirus checker or something. If don't see that anything is running then click on the performance tab on the task manager to check how much cpu power is being used, i hope that something will popup on your screen and you will be able to fix this.

Hey don't worry here is the solution.
I think this could probably help you out, by doing the following steps you will be able to clean up the unwanted things.

Please follow the steps mentioned below after logging in to windows:

1. Go to Start
2. Then to Run
3. And in the Run type "msconfig" in there.
4. After typing it click on OK.
5. Then click startup.
6. Click on disable all.
7. After that click on apply.
8. Click ok.
9. And finally restart your computer.
10. Click on the "do not show this again" when your system boots up and then displays configuration has been changed.

Re: Speed issue with compaq presario v5000

It depends upon the problem what it is exactly. It seems to be possible that some parts of the HD may have damaged. It is possible to suggest the following:

Just do the backup of valuable data that you have on the disk and on you system. I'll suggest you to Download Everest home edition from the net. Run it and look in "storage" to check the manufacturer of your hard drive. After that download and create a bootable cd of this software for your type of Hard Disk. Boot your system and follow the instructions. Please run a complete test of your Hard Disk and report the results.

I would suggest that if any of the suggestions doesn't work, i think it may be your OS which is corrupted. You may have the restoration media available from Compaq, it will either be available as a restoration CD or a restoration option when you boot your system. By going through all the solution i have only this solution, it is what you need to do, try to back up all of your data and after that follow the manufacturer's instructions to restore the system to its build. during this process you'll have to reinstall all the things that you have installed yourself since when you have had it, its not a big deal and also its not a light option.
