Booting problems in Acer Aspire 4730z

I have recently bought an Acer Aspire 4730z laptop which is installed with Windows XP and Windows Vista. The system is kept on dual boot mode. The system gives me an option as in which operating system to boot. Few days back I accidentally started Windows Vista instead of Windows Xp. So I pressed the power button again while the system was booting. The system shut down and now I am not able to boot the system. Acer Aspire 4730z does not boot at all. When the power button is pressed, the system gives a blank screen and nothing happens. I am really scared and dont know what to do. Any suggestions/solutions are welcome.

As the laptop is new I will suggest you to take the laptop to the Acer service center. Acer laptops come with 1 year company warranty. If the laptop faces any problems with its working in 1 year other than Physical damage, then Acer support provides free support in solving the issue. If the laptop has not undergone any physical damage then the Acer support will check the laptop and the will let you know what the problem is.

I think it is an operating system failure. As you have restarted the laptop while the system was booting it may have caused the operating system failure. Re-installing the operating system will solve the issue. If you have the Bootable disk of the operating disk, insert it in the DVD drive and then change the booting order. Keep the 1st bootable device as the CD rom and the 2nd boot device as the Hard disk. Now reboot the system and press any key to boot from CD. The Windows Installer will load and will give you the options for installation. Follow the onscreen procedure and then complete the installation.

Re: Booting problems in Acer Aspire 4730z

Any device of which is connected to the laptop are very prone to failure due power fluctuation. All the laptops have built in stabilizer circuits which work for against the AC main line fluctuation. As you have pressed the power button while the system was booting it created the sudden power cut off which cannot be prevented by the stabilizer circuit. Some device of the laptop must have gone bad due to the sudden power cut off and hence the laptop is not booting. Get the laptop checked by some technician and replace the part which has been damaged.

Re: Booting problems in Acer Aspire 4730z

The Graphic processor unit of the Laptop has gone bad and needs to be replaced. The GPU is responsible for the display of the laptop. If the GPU of the laptop gets damaged then the laptop will not be able to display anything which is why you are getting a blank screen. In dekstop computers there is separate card for the GPU but in the laptop the GPU chipset is integrated on the motherboard. Hence to replace the GPU chipset, entire motherboard of the laptop has to be replaced. If the laptop is under warranty then motherboard will be replaced for free but if the laptop is out of warranty then you will have to pay for the part replaced and for the service charge.

Re: Booting problems in Acer Aspire 4730z

You can try this troubleshooting step and see if it works. In laptops the static charge gets stored in the RAM and the other devices. This static charge will sometimes create problem while booting of the system. One of the indication of the Accumaltion of the static charge is getting a blank screen. To discharged the static charge, follow the steps below :-
1) Remove the AC adapter.
2) Remove the battery of the laptop.
3) Press the power button for about 30 seconds.
4) Now connect the AC adapter to the laptop and boot the system.
Hopefully the system will boot.
