Ibook G4 does not start

Hello, I have an ibook G4 which is running on Mac OS X 10.5 operating system. It was working fine till yesterday, when the laptop shut itself down. I tried to start the laptop again, but the Ibook G4 does not start. Whenever the Power button is pressed, there are no start up chimes neither does the fan spins. I cant figure out what the problem is so need your help in solving this issue.

By looking at the problem it looks like the Ibook is not getting power and hence it is not starting. Check if the AC adapter of the Ibook is working fine. Try replacing the Adapter with some other other adapter which you know is good and then try to boot the system. If the system does not boot, then remove the battery and check the voltage across it. There is a high possibility that the battery of the Ibook is faulty and creating problem while powering on the computer.

Try doing a SMC reset and see if the system boots. SMC is responsible for many low level functions on the Intel based MAC systems. To perform the SMC reset, follow these steps :-
1. Power down the iBook.
2. Remove the AC adapter if it is connected to the laptop.
3. Remove the battery and Press the power button.
4. Keep the Power button pressed for about 10 seconds and then release it.
5. Connect the battery and then the Power adapter
Now start the Ibook and see if the system boots.

If you can open the Ibook, then open it and check the RAM chips are dislocated from their slots. System does not responds to the power button if it is not able to access the RAM of the system. Open the Ibook and then check if the RAM chips are properly inserted in the RAM Slots. To be sure, remove the RAM chips and clean the connecting terminals of the RAM. After cleaning the RAM chips,replace the RAM again in their respective slots. You can also try to boot the system by using one RAM chip at a time, if you have multiple RAM chips.

The Problem is with the logic board of the system. If the Logic board is faulty then the system will not boot. All the controls of the laptop are present on the logic board of the system. If the logic board of the system gets faulty then the laptop wont start as all the devices are connected to the logic board. Contact the nearest Apple service center and then get the Ibook checked. They will tell you if the logic board needs to be replaced. If the Ibook is covered under apple warranty then you will get the logic board replaced for free, if the laptop is out of the warranty then you will have to pay for the peripherals replaced.
